Die Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH in the Course of Time

 


1871 August Thyssen laid the foundation with the existing company "Gewerkschaft Deutscher Kaiser" for his activities in the coal mining industry and hence for the Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH.

The main activites were shaft sinking and exploration drilling. Next to the conventional shaft sinking method the new freezing technique was developed, with which the name of Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH became known among the experts.

In the course of the classification into mining and metallurgy after the second world war August Thyssen founded in the year 1919 the Schachtbau Thyssen GmbH located in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The duties were the execution of all kinds of drilling and shaft sinking works, the operation of mining enterprises as well as the formation of branches and subsidiaries in Germany and overseas and the acquisition and cooperation with companies of similar business purposes.


As soon as the second world war was over the company was reestablished and Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH restarted its activities.


The internationalization of markets and the main focus of activities of the company were finally documentated with the change of the company name into Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH.


In Germany the last shaft was sunkt in the year 2000 by Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH in the Saar region. Accordingly the company is more internationally orientated since then.

Today the company is one of the leading specialized mining companies in the world with its technical know how and its more than 100 years of experience and offers the complete range of specialized mining work for the horizontal as well as the vertical mining industry.
